The most common dessert in almost every celebration these days is CAKE .  Its evolution, however, began centuries ago. The ancient cakes were totally different from the modern ones. Those days they looked more like bread wherein the honey would have been the ingredient for sweetener. Taste enhancers would be due to added nuts and dried fruits. Slight improvement over this basic version was done by the medieval European bakers. They baked cakes which would last longer. And so was the invention of fruit cakes and ginger bread.
